Uttarakhand Government planning Ropeway for Kedarnath!

The idea of ropeway for Kedarnath is good. It will shift a section of pilgrims to the aerial route. Those who want to feel the joy of trek, will reach the shrine on foot.

According to some reports, the Uttarakhand Government is thinking on a range of ideas to reduce human pressure on Kedarnath Shrine. One such plan is to build a ropeway ("Hindola or Trolley", in common parlance) for Kedarnath Shrine.

The idea of ropeway for Kedarnath is good. It will shift a section of pilgrims to the aerial route. Those who want to feel the joy of trek, will reach the shrine on foot. The move if implemented adequately (that's with adequate number of cabins and multiple ropeways), will no doubt affect the human porters and ponnywalas; but compared to the decrease in human pressure on the Kedarnath Ecosystem, the idea is definitely actionable.

I can even recommend some other ambitious steps. One among them can be to release a fixed number of pilgrims to Hills every day. The Government can make systematic halts at haridwar onwards. This will not only boost commerce in these cities, but will ensure that only that number of pilgrims on Hills which both the Uttarakhand Ecosystem and the Administration can handle & care for.

One way to notice tourists, is to issue a Tourist pass to every tourist, which will offer concessions on travel and boarding. Any money the Government will shell on subsidising these can be recovered by means of commerce which will increase in the cities where tourists will take a halt.
