Uttarakhand gets $648m WB loan for Vishnugard Pipalkoti hydropower project

Uttarakhand will get $648m or Indian rupees 2916 crore World Bank loan for Vishnugard Pipalkoti hydropower project.

The project will be built on Alaknanda river and will provide power to the India's northern grid.
The beneficiary states of this power project will be Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir.

Apart from power generation the project will also help reduce India's greenhouse gas emissions by 1.6 million tonnes each year, when compared with a thermal plant of the same capacity.
