Aero-design Students From Dehradun to show their skills in USA

Sreetej Lakkam from Dehradun has made his city proud. Sreetej is part of a 10-member team, named ‘The Skyhawks', of students from University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun, which is going to take part in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aero Design Competition 2012, going to be held in March 2012 at Los Angeles in the United States of America.

A three-day event, attracting bright students from around the world, is scheduled to take place at Valley Flyers Field, Lake Balboa, Los Angeles, California, USA on March 16, 17 and 18. Of the three categories –Regular, Advanced and Micro – The Skyhawks will be competing in the regular category. The regular category is all about designing a remote-controlled aircraft that can lift as much weight as possible; while adhering to the power, length, width and height requirements. The competition will check the basic knowledge required to design and fabricate a model aircraft.

Sreetej, and five others participated in the completion last year as well and the team secured 3rd rank in Asia and overall 12th among 54 teams that came from across the world. The team's design was acknowledged as the best from Asia and ranked 11th internationally.
