Justifying its Tuesday decision to rename five Shyama Prasad Mukherjee residential schools as Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidyalaya and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Affiliating University as Sridev Suman Affiliating University -- as not politically motivated -- The Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna informed the public that the Government is contemplating renaming the Deen Dayal Upadhyay 108 emergency medical service in near future as well.

Speaking to the media personnel, the CM said,

"The renaming of various schemes is not politically motivated and it has been done as per the aspirations of the people of the state.  Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Deen Dayal Upadhyay could be the leader of BJP but certainly they were not national leaders and also they had no contribution to Uttarakhand. We just want to honour our great leaders,"

The Chief Minister, however, refused to disclose the name of the leader after whom it would be named and said it would be known after the matter comes up in the cabinet.

The CM, however, made it clear that the schemes initiated after the name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would not be renamed stating that he is a national leader and he was the Prime Minister of the country.

"The names of schemes like Atal foodgrain scheme and Atal housing scheme would not be changed, " he said.

Amidst all this clarifications, a BJP delegation, led by former Chief Minister B C Khanduri and former Speaker of state assembly Harbans Kapoor, met the Uttarakhand Governor and sought his intervention on the issue of renaming of various schemes. The delegation also submitted a memorandum to him and urged him to direct the state government to immediately withdraw the decision to rename projects.
