Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Rawat gives examples from Dehradun in Gopeshwar

While gathering support for upcoming his party's mayor candidate in the upcoming civic elections, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat ysterday in Gopeshwar said the state government has saved crores of public money by re-estimating the earlier approximations of project costs. He called the previous approximations over-estimated.

The CM cited examples of a flyover on Dehradun-Haridwar National Highway and a tunnel on Dehradun-Saharanpur National Highway, where he made a claim that his government saved a total of Rs. 30 crore, by re-estimating the project costs.

That said, though the cost cutting claim made during elections looks good, it is not very trust-worthy. For two reasons --

1) How will such a claim be verified? and;

2) A Cost saving claim is not equivalent to real work on ground.

The chief minister may or may not be making a true claim. But whatever the situation be, only verifiable acts are trust-worthy.

It would have been good if the CM had told the people what money was spent in Gopeshwar and what were the visible results on ground (in Gopeshwar).
