We support Gairsain as Uttarakhand's permanent Capital

Is it essential to say a few words about the Gairsain permanent capital movement? Certainly it is.

In fact, more words must have been said by us on the suitability of Gairsain as Uttarakhand's permanent capital and the ongoing agitation.

The only reason I see as to why we are not speaking about Gairsain permanent capital agitation is that we are not physically present there. But still the blame of remaining silent about the issue can be harped on us.

So here are our few words about how we here feel about the suitability of Gairsain in Chamoli district as Uttarakhand's permanent capital.

As far as I know, the only motivation behind the demand for a separate state of Uttarakhand, was a Hill state. The demand goes back to early 1960s.

When Uttarakhand movement gained mass mobilization during early 1990s, people imagined one model for the new state -- A Hill State.

A hill state, not only in terms of geography, but also in terms of culture and traditions. A state with a capital somewhere in Uttarakhand hills was assumed as one of the many factors which will contribute towards that Hill State identity.

Unfortunately, Uttarakhand never truly reflected those aspirations.

What went wrong? Many things. One among them was the unfulfilled demand for Gairsain as Uttarakhand's permanent capital.

If various governments call Uttarakhand a Hill state, then GAIRSAIN MUST BE MADE THE PERMANENT CAPITAL OF UTTARAKHAND. People's demand for Gairsain as the permanent capital does make a lot of sense.
