A Facebook rumor burns Agastyamuni, Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand

It is being reported that shops belonging to the other community were burnt in Agastyamuni by a mob following rumors spread on Facebook that a youth had raped a minor girl in the town of Rudraparayag district, Uttarakhand, yesterday.

Who spread the rumor?

Why people spread such rumors?

These are some questions which many among us seem to have risen above. So there is no use communicating with such people. These are the same people who have become so self-admiring (in Hindi, "आत्ममुग्ध") in their thoughts and with people they admire that they ask their Facebook friends and others -- I can say for sure, even after all the setbacks our leader has faced, you will never want your child to become like our leader's political rival. (You will say, There is no question there!... Yes that is why they are so "आत्ममुग्ध").

So lets not talk about the rumor.

Lets talk about the result of the rumor: According to a newspaper report, people burnt down and vandalized the vegetable carts and other kiosks (फल सब्जी के ठेले, इत्यादि).

And this is Sad!

Even if some of these rumors prove to be true, then can it be a reason to resort to such blind arson and vandalism?

To conclude, if WhatsApp shares and Facebook shares are any indication then we are becoming small people, with small hearts. If we continue to be that way then will we ever be able to speak for Uttarakhand people outside Uttarakhand and India. Will we ever be able to speak for Humanity? Think about it?
