Only 45 Percent and above in Graduation Eligible for TET: Uttarakhand HC

Written by Anil Singh

In its landmark judgement, the Single bench of Chief Justice Barin Ghosh and Justice Alok Singh, Uttarakhand High Court, Nainital ruled that Only those candidates who have secured 45 Percent and more in Graduation will be Eligible for Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Thus in the upcoming UTET, only those who have secured 45 percent or more will be eligible.

The decision is Not against the applicants:

On a casual glance, the decision will appear anti-student. Against those students who have not secured 45 percent in graduation and want to appear in TET. In essence, the decision is good for such students. The reason is: With 120 crore plus population, the best way to aspire for a job is to be at Top ten percent of students. A student with less than 45 percent can apply for TET, but he/she will not be able to compete with the one who secured first division in the Graduation.

PS: If one has to make teaching as his/her career: He/she should be through out first class OR at least in top 20 percent of the students. At least that should be goal.

In addition, the youth in Uttarakhand needs to rethink their BEd goals. That's unless they have an illustrious academic record, doing BEd will only increase the tension and stress. Instead, carefully choosing a career of one's choice is better. Remember a Money once spent can't be Spent Twice. This is the wisdom of Opportunity Cost. Money here represents both Time and Money.
