Too much Stimulation prevents you from getting a Good Sleep?

Written by Anil Singh

A nation-wide survey in USA, reveals that Too much food, drink, and stimulation keep 70 million Americans from getting good rest.

This may apply to you as well, if you live an American lifestyle.

Below are the key reasons why Americans are not getting a good night's sleep:

1) Over-caffeinated: Americans are found to be over caffeinated (coffee, soft drinks, energy drinks, snacks)

2) Overmedicated: Americans are found to be over-medicated (prescription and over-the-counter drugs, including alcohol).

3) Over-wired: Americans are found to be over-wired (video games, Web browsing, social media, texting).

4) Over-stressed: Americans are found to be overstressed (money, work, relationships, overloaded schedules).

The above four reasons, individually and collectively are negatively affecting the sleeping patterns of Americans and making them too restless to doze off when they should.

The survey results and the factors responsible can be seen as responsible for one other problems America is facing : Obesity. Over stimulation, in a variety of ways has affected the biological clocks, which also results in obesity.

Interesting Fact: The number of accredited sleep centers has risen in US by 630 percent in 15 years.

Inability to get a Good night’s sleep, is a matter of concern:

According to experts, inability to get a good night’s sleep is not a thing to be neglected. The effects of insufficient sleep are hardly as benign as many of us might think. Any degree of sleep deprivation impairs the performance in humans: be it driving, paying attention in the classroom, or workplace. Hence, a person should ensure an adequate sound sleep every 24 hours.

Generally, most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep a night; but the amount one needs is genetically determined. Some people might need four hours on the short end, up to 10 on the high end. We have absolutely no control over this.

As a rule of thumb, to know whether you are sleep deprived or not, pay attention to this fact: Anyone who uses an alarm clock "is by definition sleep-deprived". This is because, if the brain had received the amount of sleep it wanted, you would have woken up before the alarm went off.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea increases Risk of Heart Failure

Written by Anil Singh

Can you afford to ignore Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)?

A recent study by researchers in Britain, Advises you not to.

According to the researchers at the University of Birmingham Center for Cardiovascular Sciences in Birmingham, England -- A nightly breathing treatment for those with obstructive sleep apnea might also help prevent heart failure.

How the Study was conducted:

According to Dr. Gregory Y. H. Lip the head researcher,

the researchers took 40 patients with moderate to severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and compared the results from this group with those obtained from 40 people with high blood pressure and 40 healthy people.

The researchers said that the people with severe obstructive sleep apnea patients had abnormal cardiac structure and performance changes typically associated with chronic high blood pressure, even when their blood pressure was only moderately elevated.

That apart, the cardiac abnormalities in these Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea often remain undetected.

What is suggested?

The researchers suggested that the situation among people with severe Obstructive Sleep Disorder is markedly improved with continuous positive air pressure, With Patients, further need to understand that obstructive sleep apnea is not a benign disorder, but that their risk of heart problems can be easily treated with continuous positive air pressure -- a device used to help get better sleep.

The findings were published in the journal Circulation: Heart Failure.

NOTE: Sleep apnea (or sleep apnoea in British English) is a sleep disorder characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing or instances of abnormally low breathing, during sleep. In short, it can said sudden difficulty in breathing during sleep. Each pause in breathing, called an apnea, can last from a few seconds to minutes, and may occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour. Similarly, each abnormally low breathing event is called a hypopnea. Sleep apnea is diagnosed with an overnight sleep test called a polysomnogram, or "sleep study".

There are three forms of sleep apnea: central Sleep Apnea (CSA), obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), and complex or mixed sleep apnea (i.e., a combination of central and obstructive) constituting 0.4%, 84% and 15% of cases respectively.

In CSA, most common of all types, breathing is interrupted by a lack of respiratory effort; in OSA, breathing is interrupted by a physical block to airflow despite respiratory effort, and snoring is common.

As a rule of thumb, to know whether you have a sleep apnea, just see this: If you sleep well, in a slightly sitting pose, so that your head and neck remains vertical; then you may have Severe Sleep Apnea. If you snore, then you may have Sleep Apnea. Consult a doctor for diagnosis.

Cure for Baldness will be available in Next 10 Years

Written by Anil Singh

Does receding Hair line, affect the male confidence?

Appears that, it does.

I still remember, how a very talented and successful friend; once said gloomily, he feels bad for his hair loss. I told him, not to feel so; as his life and career graph is inspiring to any one; irrespective of whether he has a crowing glory or a bald head.

In short, it seems that baldness or a receding hair line affects male confidence.

And the news of some cure for baldness; is always a feel good moment.

So lets share one such feel good moments today:

A cure for baldness, is coming soon. Claim a team of scientists who for the first time grown hair on hairless rodents in the laboratory.

A team at Tokyo University of Science has, in fact, achieved the breakthrough by implanting follicles created from stem cells into the skin of the so-called bald mice which eventually grew hair.

This is for the first time researchers showed that hair follicles can be grown with adult stem cells.

According to Prof Takashi Tsuji, who led the study, Their current study thus demonstrates the potential for not only hair regeneration therapy but also the realisation of bioengineered organ replacement using adult somatic stem cells.

The researchers plan to start clinical research within three to five years, so that an actual treatment to patients can start within a decade.

No one should be disheartened to know that the cure for baldness will take another ten years to reach to them -- As even when the cure will be available; the Pharma commerce will ensure that the cure comes at a steep money -- So that, first of all the parties team to the development, can make some money. A money, beyond the reach of a common Joe.

So interestingly, the baldness scenario for a common man, will remain almost the same, as it is today.

Fact: No matter how much you try; Males can't stop a receding hairline (Hair line going up and forehead becoming wider by each decade). As male hormones silently ensure that the hair line recede a few millimetres every ten years, beginning from 20s. The characteristic hair fall in men; makes a 'W'; where in, compared to the centre, the hair line recedes faster on the two sides of the forehead. Other reasons for more than normal hair fall is either some fungal infection or heredity (baldness is in family). If later is the case; then "Sit back, Relax and Say All is Well".
