Pithoragarh records Lowest Sex Ratio of 766! In 1991 it had 1000+ Girls for every 1000 Boys Born

The findings of Annual Health Survey (AHS) in 284 districts of nine states (Empowered Action Group states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Rajasthan, besides Assam), which constitute for 50 per cent of India's population have revealed that among the surveyed districts, the Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand has the lowest Sex Ratio at Birth (SBR). Pithoragarh records Lowest Sex Ratio of 766! Congrats!

That's in Pithoragarh district, for every 1000 males born there are 766 females.

Congrats once again.

Am I nuts?

May be.

But when the people choose to have their way, the best way is to congratulate them. Else there will be much sorrow.

See, Where Pithoragarh has reached in just 2 decades:

When Uttarakhand was formed, based on 1991 Census, the districts of Almora and Pithoragarh had an SBR of plus 1000. That's for for every 1000 boys born, more than 1000 girls were born. Now only 766 girls are being born for every 1000 boys. Pithoragarh has reached a point where it has worst SBR among half of India.

How Pithoragarh managed to get the distinction in this small time:

It was a literal bloodbath. Every Girl after the first child was killed. The trend, started by Army men, who got to know about the sex detection techniques while posted elsewhere, spread to most households of Pithoragarh. The situation has reached to such a stage that even when you walk through six or seven villages, you will not find a single ALL GIRL households.

Interestingly everyone, including the proletariat (in Hindi "Buddhiji varg") and the media, either remained a silent spectator or encouraged this bloodbath (in Hindi "Narsanhar").

If Pithoragarh people don't awake now; then they should get ready for the worst -- not only Sex ratio wise but also socially.

PS: It's not that the people pf Pithoragarh are not God fearing People. They are. They are highly religious and even go to Bhagvats and organize kirtans. They are also aware of the ban on Animal sacrifice in temples.  It may only be that they have kept religion, Sin and like things separate from Killing of Girl Child.
